I have been working at Lenovo full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Lenovo has some pros. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and you can over achieve if you work hard and look for ways to stand out. Inside Sales Managers are hit or miss but if you get a good one life can be pretty good. Benefits for full-time employees are very good and pay is decent. Half day once a week during the summer is great too. Great entry level job for college grads with no sales experience.

Cons

I don't know if I could list all the horrible things about working at Lenovo.

The #1 issue is that they hire all contractors with no experience or many skills. I often wonder if they even read resumes or care about the results of the interview. When contractors are hired they have 1 interview that takes 15 minutes. It truly shows the company doesn't value their employees. They also don't train the new hires well at all, usually 1-2 months. All fo this leads to a very bad culture. The management constantly has to micro manage and treat the ISR's like highschoolers.

The company doesn't value their senior rep's or full-time employees very much either. The overall vibe amongst employees is very negative. You can hear people all over the sales floor complaining about the managers, tools, and company non-stop which brings down moral constantly.

Constantly understaffed. No training. NO professional development. Unreasonable expectations.

The next biggest issue is the sales tools they have. They are horrible. The average "sales" rep, AKA Admin, will spend 75% of their day dealing with issues in SAP CRM. They support teams are understaffed and there is very little help if you need it. It is a pure nightmare for all the reps. Most people stay long enough to gain just enough experience to get a job elsewhere. Worst of all, Management doesn't care. They will hire another contractor to replace you. They also won't fix the tools, processors, or hire more people to support sales.

Another big issue is the commissions and reporting. You will NEVER know how well you are doing because the company constantly makes errors in reporting and provides you with very little insight. You basically have to watch you numbers carefully and call out all the mistakes they make. Its also a known fact amongst vets that you will typically only pay rep's for 50% of the services they sell; and you may only get credit for half of those.

The best advice I can give is stay away if you are already have experence or want to hit the streets selling. This role is only good for kids right out of college.

If hired as a contractor, forget about moving to full time employment. It won't happen.

I have been working at Lenovo as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very good development team and knowledge share between developers. Flexible hours and the ability to work from home from time to time.

    Cons

Management has suffered and reorganization has left Lenovo a mess. Managers who have never written a line of code in their lives are in charge of development and the deadlines are unreasonable and driven by sales. There are constant struggles between departments that do nothing but cause tension. There is no sense that anyone is "working together". The overall feeling is to watch your back, don't complain about working weekends and holidays and don't take time off, your job might not be there when you return. Expect to work during the holidays, especially if you're a contractor. The managers and other full time employees will dump work on you while they take time off.

Each manager is more worried about themselves personally and keeping their job by throwing good employees under the bus... LOTS of layoffs and no room for upward movement. Many people there are contractors after 4+ years while they hire others straight to Lenovo with no explanation on why they can't move any contractors to full time.

Lenovo doesn't officially recognize any work the contractors perform for bonuses or awards, so you get to sit in meeting after meeting while everyone you work with gets awards and monetary bonuses, while the contractors are left out in the cold.

There is no feeling of job security at Lenovo. Numerous times a year you show up to work to find a handful of empty desks and no explanation of why anyone was let go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat contractors better and give them the same bonuses and awards full time employees receive as they are doing work just like everyone else. It's insulting to treat a contractor as lesser than a full time employee, especially when they work side by side.

Offer contractors the ability to move to full time. After being at Lenovo 3+ years, you would think it's been demonstrated the employee can do the work... yet I have been told repeatedly there is a "process" to move to full time but that process is a mystery as many people there are contractors of 5 years or longer... while they continue hire people direct to Lenovo.

I have been working at Lenovo full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting products with 24x7 operations. Strong presence in China and more job rotation and mobility in China than the rest of the world.

    Cons

Too much organizational change, organizational politics, and lack of true functional alignment, and lack of promotability. No rest for anyone in a WW supporting role as it is truly a 24x7 company. Too many meetings and prep meetings lessening the time to get actual work accomplished.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at how to run the business by better functional alignment and strategy shared objectives vs politics.
