Great campus, great people, poor systems integration making maintenance a full time job.

Broomfield, CO

Former Employee – worked at Level 3 Communications

ProsThe campus is very nice and in a beautiful location. Real offices exist for some employees which are pleasant to work in.

ConsLevel 3 is a collection of acquired companies all with their own systems, people, and policies. Consolidation efforts are not currently where they should be. The company is not aligned in their objectives or direction. Integration of the systems should be priority number one for Level 3 but instead they have several competing groups trying to reconcile historical data from incompatible systems. A balanced scorecard approach could help Level 3 get on top of their overall strategy. Low level management has too much power to work outside the box and hire their own contractors to fill a need that needs to be more centrally located.

Advice to Senior ManagementIT is overloaded but that does not mean let all your separate departments create black ops IT organizations. Pick one system at a time such as Order Entry and find one platform to move forward with. From that point move to the next system such as billing and consolidate again to one system. Do not let contractors work on competing projects within a department. It's counter productive and expensive.
