Pros

Level 3 offers a very solid tuition assistance program. There are opportunities for advancement in different departments as well as around the nation. The overall culture is that of a 'can do' attitude. The expansion over the last 7 years is an indicator that the leadership is striving to keep forward momentum.

Cons

Level 3 is bound by the economic environment as are many American companies. Level 3 continues to strive to avoid the unfortunate decisions that must be made when the economy slows.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall, this is a good company to work for. It suffers from the same issues that most companies dependent on the economy suffer from. Level 3 still remains a place where individuals can grow and develop while contributing in the growth of the company.

    Cons

    Constant hair on fire mentality. Politics.

    Pros

    Worlds largest IP network, Nice campus, on-site gym, nearby trails, workers are loyal to each other (for the most part), opportunity to work with latest technology

    Cons

    The company's huge debt burden combined with low single digit annualized growth is cause for concern. After 14 years, the company has yet to make a profit. All financial info is available from the Investors portion of level3.com.

    The continued lack of profitability has attributed to a "negative" culture. For instance, forced ranking of employees causes strife with teams, OpEx savings through continued "impacts" (i.e. layoffs) that occur every 6 months (June and December - Merry Christmas), ridiculous and bloated business process which is supposed to help business operations but instead hinders it, a revolving door of contract developers and off-shore support leads to a knowledge drain and lack of subject matter expert development within the company, a lack of commitment to build new products from scratch that actually require development but would create a durable advantage for the company, and no career development.

    The network alone is not enough to guarantee success. Invest in your infrastructure, in true product differentiators, and your people. Your company is only as good as its employees.
