I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Senior managment is well qualified and really care for the most part. A very good work environment and the most co-workers turn out to be great colleagues. Decent reputation in the legal community.

Cons

Lexis seems to be one step behind the competition causing lots of frustration with employees who continually try to push things through. Law School Marketing has lost market share for many years running now and they seem clueless. Pay is inconsistent for lots of employees in the field, causing resentment at times. They do annual "pulse surveys" to guage employee satisfaction but they do not act to solve their glaring problems---especially as the role gets closer to the customer.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees when you analyze your "pulse surveys." You can be a great company if you would just listen and act. Listen to your field reps more and middle managment less.

    Pros

Well-defined business units and growth objectives. Co-workers are easy to work with, talented and smart. Business is fairly mature but opportunities to grow still exist and are being actively pursued.

    Cons

Pay is below market, and sometimes it takes longer than expected to get an initiative approved for development and in the queue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work more to identify and exploit new market opportunities -- investing in promotion and research where possible.

    Pros

Great people, used to be cutting edge technology

    Cons

-Upper management is bogged down covering their mistakes
    - Endless meetings that accomplish nothing
    - Always reacting to competition, no innovation
    - Direction keeps changing
    - Always reacting to competition, no innovation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a strategy and stick with it. Quit hiring flunkie executives that jump from company to company. They only cost Lexis more money when they leave and everything they did has to be un-done. Let your employees make decisions without fear of backlash. Management should address the low morale that has persisted for 5+ years.
