Pros

1. Team is solely responsible to deliver the task and empowered to take all the decision to achieve it. Following Agile/Scrum
2. Building good team management, decision taking abilities, ownership of work.
3. Working with good experienced people helps to improve technical skills. Arrange multiple training to improve technical skills.
4. Fully performance driven organization. Performance reviewed in each quarter.
5. Good work/life balance.

Cons

1. Higher management is not tightly coupled with team as well as individuals.
2. Interteam knowledge sharing is low.
3. Lack of resource management.

    Pros

    Once upon a time it was a good place to work.

    1) Comparatively good organization to learn. There are some good projects to work.
    2) Flexi timing
    3) Work/life balance (it has flip side as well)
    4) Comparatively better pay, but the financial situation is not good.
    5) Better to join if you get a management position.
    6) Very good medical benefits and paid leaves.
    7) Still better to join if you are resident of Kolkata. You can stay here as long as you want. You will not be sacked even if you under perform.
    8) You will get a chance to work with some of the good minds in KY and areound the world
    9) Good at corporate social responsibility

    Cons

    It has turned into a family business with AUTOCRATIC decisions in the recent past.

    1) Very very mediocre management (in terms of management and technical abilities).
    2) Managers dont have a bite or punch. They do as intructed by senior management even if the decisions are not good.
    3) Lack of transparency
    4) Managers lack vision. Interested only in making money and balancing the life (less work)? Sometimes they are totally unaware of what is going on in their area.
    5) Does not maintain pyramidal organization structure. Too many managers as compared to employees.
    6) Coterie culture. Only few selected friends to management get promotions.
    7) HR is not independent. It gets its instructions from management.
    8) No difference in performers and under performers due to lack of good performance management system. This affects the salary hikes. The performers do not get their pie.

    Advice to Management

    1) Cut the flab and sack few incompetent managers including senior managers.
    2) Be transparent in dealing with employees.
    3) HR should be independent.
    4) Deploy better performance management system. Managers should not decide the pay structure on the basis of their likes and dislikes.
    5) Improve the chances of career growth by opening up new avenues.
    6) Dont shy away in calling back the best resources who have left Lexmark because of the degrading culture.

    Clean out the dead weight in middle management.
