I worked at Lg Electronics Alabama full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Free benefits, frequently free lunches. Work with some smart and talented colleagues whose skills go to waste.

    Cons

LGEAI has two org charts: 1) Korean, 2) All others. If you're not Korean, there's a glass ceiling. This is further reinforced by the bilingual requirement for most management positions.

The company chant in meetings: Be First, Do it Right, Work Smart.

    It's all a lie, because:

Be First: Engineering and business processes are constantly "bench-marking" (i.e. imitating) other companies' ideas and functions. Solutions which conflict with the status-quo are ignored or publicly ridiculed. Planning Dept. is only interested in grabbing the scraps left behind by successful tech and service companies. Marketing is obsessed with mimicking and following Samsung. When attempting to resolve business processes, I was told by management that, "LG isn't going to change."

Do It Right: KPIs used to obsessively measure performance are often conflicting between departments, resulting in political tension rather than productivity. No serious focus on developing leaders or the talent supporting management exists. "Waterfall management" ensures constant fire drills and reactionary responses to issues. It never seemed as though anyone had a clear vision or long-term plan for anything. Meetings are constant. Daily, weekly, and 2-hour long monthly meetings are Draconian and involve all departments sitting in a round-table format while the President nitpicks and lectures everyone. As a result, morale is dreadful. All of my co-workers were constantly tense and paranoid about their job security and working conditions. Over less than three months, a senior training manager, recruiting manager, planning manager, two admins, and a dozen technicians were fired or resigned.

Work Smart: Job culture is one of long-hours, constant overtime, and an expectation of over work. The image of being productive (i.e. looking busy) is more important than delivering results or being efficient. Paid overtime kicks in at 45 hours and is not paid beyond 50 weekly hours. You have to clock in everyday by 8:00am on the time system or your manager will reprimand you. Lunch is only between 12:00pm and 1:00pm with no flexibility. Working after 5:00pm is highly encouraged as it makes you appear diligent and committed to the job culture. In addition, outdated and poorly maintained IT and business intelligence systems/software provide only crude tools which then give crude answers to crude questions. I spent countless hours delivering meaningless daily/weekly reports using manual data processing techniques. For IT skill, MS Excel is about all you need to know at LG.

I worked at Lg Electronics Alabama full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Provide very good benefit package and multiple online learning program and training to the employees; the employee efforts on the work will reflect on the reward or incentives.

    Cons

Employee, to be improved on the new product knowledge, has to be ready for the assignment or project when the business demands. To be educated through the training program is essential way plus the self-initiative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At least one HR staff in the branch office that will be better for employee.
