Positive and growing, but frustratingly slow and unbalanced.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than a year)

Pros

The company has excellent benefits with time off, 401K matching, and health benefits. There are many opportunities and a wide range of positions. Jobs are relatively secure and work life balance is considered.

Cons

Want to achieve and produce? You won't see much for it. Promotions for performance? Not really--you won't be picked unless you apply. Your career is in your hands, but slow growth is the norm here. Set your sights on senior management from the bottom?--forget it. The common theme among executives is that they aren't homegrown.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are no formal, anonymous review of managers by their direct reports. This is inherently flawed and needs to change. Secondly, in regards to the college rotational programs, there needs to be active career development on the part of the program leaders--stagnant development just doesn't cut it.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Well paid, great communication among team members. I got along with everybody there. The managers really are there to make sure the employees have the resources they need.

    Cons

Locations might not be perfect, If interests aren't aligned with insurance you will be bored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to pay well and communicate. Don't wait until reviews to mention things that could be improved.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

They offer excellent compensation and benefits IMO. Liberty Mutual has a great reputation in the industry and I absolutely loved the people I worked with.

    Cons

The company culture is not especially fun, but if you don't care about that it's not an issue. The responsibilities of a claims adjuster have significantly increased over the years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to employees about their career opportunities in the company at the 2-3 year mark.
