Started out great but turned into micromanaging beyond anything I've ever heard of with other companies.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

benefits from day one, bonus for making sales goals, free coffee and tea lots of vacation time. System upgrades, dual screens. Get to talk to people all over the country.

Cons

You can not use the vaca time if you are not pro-rated so many people lose it at end of year. Management does not care that there are sales people cheating to make goal. You have to make up cancels first before your sales count towards goal. Every 1/4 they find a few new reports to add to your daily key metrics that will need to be met. Many system workarounds to get the job done. Phone Queues are not equal for everyone.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

F a i r n e s s . Please treat all sales and for that matter the entire office the same. Do not make rules for one sales person that does not apply to another with the same numbers. Remember these are people not robots. The phone queues are not equal for everyone. This office has a rep for being a sweatshop which is a shame because it's in a great location. The turnover is 40%. Why?

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time

    Pros

    - pay and bennies are excellent
    - company as a whole treats employees very well
    - very stable market with growing products/tech

    Cons

    - one other comment stated that who your manager is, can make or break your career. that is 100% accurate.
    - having to coordinate schedules across ALL time zones equals no consistency to your day & meetings are anywhere from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM
    - meetings, meetings and more meetings
    - many people in the company consider a 12-16 hour day/ 6 day work week as normal
    - projects have cumbersome layers of hoops to jump through, for the sake of having hoops to jump through. makes it nearly impossible to actually do any substantive work
    - existing employees assume newbs 'know it already' - there is no mentoring/coaching/training but lots of criticism if you don't "just know it"
    - excpectations are significantly higher than what the job description you apply for/accept may state, so be sure to ask VERY explicit questions during interview
    - should you decide to apply for an internal position, you are subject to the same process as an outside candidate and since resources are so tight, your existing mgr may not be willing to let you go/may make it difficult

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits, 401k portfolio is amazing, they give you 15 FTO days and about 7 paid holidays. Week an a half training in Lake Mary FL, which is smooth Points for performance program, ex: I was able to order a PS4 for approx 1032 points, which can be accumulated in 2 months of killing. Higher starting salary than most companies, approx 40-45k yr. Best bet is to start out in Sales, once you are motivated you will make 6 figures early on.

    Cons

This is a dead end job avoid at all cost. No recognition, you could begin a quote and sell it, the agent binds it and gets all of the commission, while you just prepared everything. They do not promote from within. If you are attempting to advance your career you must stay in this role for at least 3 years unless " you know someone". The funny thing is even if your numbers exceed all of the metrics they still hold you back lol which is something I could never understand. They record your calls and screen scrape your computer while your on a call, only to critique the call afterwards which increases the stress level. You will find yourself going home with headaches. Do some research on the manager before accepting any offer. There are politics in every company, but it is to the 2nd power here food for thought.

    Best Regards

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. Why look outside 99.98% of the time when your current employees know the culture, its operating principles, and the system. Also diversity is key, check the office locator on the Liberty Mutual website in the NY area for sales agents, lol you will see an alarming trend.
