Life Technologies Employee Review

Current Employee – been working at Life Technologies full-time for more than 3 years

Pros – Interesting Technology, diverse portfolio, nice people, flexible schedule when needed, competitive pay.

Cons – Once you get to a mid level position within your function you will probably never get promoted. Constant concern amoung employees that layoffs will occur. Culture is very political and hierarchical, terrible health plan.

Advice to Senior Management – Discontinue consistant layoffs as a way to meet the numbers. Don't ignore the fact that promotions are important to people in the career growth and sense of satisfaction. Statements like "don't think up think lateral" as a way to advance your career gets "very old" after a while. The ability to have long term employees will get less and less with this philosophy.
