I have been working at Life Technologies full-time

Pros

You get to work with the sharpest mind on some pretty cutting edge tech.

Cons

Too many chiefs not enough Indians and they keep laying off the Indians.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire internally. Put policies in that make people feel like its not just a job. Reinstate stock purchase plans. Be more generous to the people that make the big salaries possible. The question shouldn't be ,"will there be layoffs this quarter?" it should be, "how great is it to be here?"

I worked at Life Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-My group of coworkers had a lot of characters in it
-Good Work life balance, do your work and you will have plenty of time for yourself outside of work

    Cons

-Extremely political with anyone at or above a manager level
-Benefits package was average, they were definitely not trying to lead the curve in that area
-If you got stuck with a bad manager, it could ruin your career prospect (that can be said about anyplace)
-Many technical people are promoted to middle management positions with little to no social/people/management skills

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems like management is being advised by harvard graduate consultant types with little or no knowledge of the biotech industries.

Could be a great company if managers have more long term vision and some loyalty for employees.

    Pros

Many great scientists and engineers working at the great campus with gym and park,. It has many products feasible to gain multiple technologies to expand your experience and skills.

    Cons

Main growth is by numerous acquisition rather than innovation. It causes strong sense of division between corporate and acquired companies, and different culture within the company.
Managers lack long term vision and plan, absolute agile style.
Loyalty does not have high value in this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Profit is important.
    Gaining employee loyalty is priceless.
