I worked at Life Technologies full-time (more than a year)

Pros

On average, the company seems to care about personal and professional development. There were opportunities to move horizontally to expand your skill set and they do a good job of training where they utilize there own learning curriculum or sending you to third parties.

They also have a really nice gym on the main campus which is great.

Cons

The work/life balance can be challenging at times. Upward career progression is difficult. When I was there, they cut some of the benefits and really increased the cost of certain coverages.

I worked at Life Technologies as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Spent a summer internship here. People were nice enough, but not incredibly inspiring. Great way to gain exposure to engineering design techniques

    Cons

Rift between science and engineering. Very large company, R&D worries over getting laid off, their funding cut, or their project killed. Company focuses too much on M&A instead of innovating from within. The Ion Torrent is great for PR, but the rest of the company needs the same type of aggressive ingenuity.
