    I worked at Linde North America

    Pros

    Steady work. The industrial gas business does not suffer many ups and downs in the economic cycle. Some very good people to work with and some utterly incompetent.

    Cons

    The transport supervisors job ORIGINALLY was pretty straight forward. As time went by, ever increasing workloads were added. You are a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Everything from dispatch, equipment issues, calls from drivers 24/7, payroll, you name it. It never ends. Then there is the constant pressure from upper management to follow drivers like some "thief in the night". Your family life is utterly not important to Linde. Their constant, chaotic management style is micro management in the extreme. Independent thinking is not valued, nor wanted. If you want constant, unrelenting stress (and the blame that goes with EVERYTHING being your fault), then this is the job for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Trust your employees to do the right thing. Your hiring process is quite arduous and the company standards are high. Value independent thinking, instead of the "group-think" that prevails. Stop the micro management, it just creates employee resentment.

    Pros

    Most of the people are supportive and willing to help you out if need. The benefits rank very highly among large corporation in my job experience.

    Cons

    Long hours on aging equipment can be very rough. For the extremely competent personnel there may be extensive required travel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    We appear to have cut back too far in the personnel department and even a small increase in the number of people in the work force should lead to significant reliability increases. Training is a big issue - our current system is too broad. Local training endeavors need to be dramatically increased. Accountability at the plant level is an issue.
