I have been working at Lipscomb University

Pros

Lipscomb is a faith-based institution that provides a warm, supportive environment for those who profess Christianity.
The University is very active in the community. Students, faculty, and staff are all involved in regular community service projects. A large percentage of students go on service missions at spring break.
The school is growing at a very fast pace. There are more students now than there have ever been. New and better faculty members are being hired constantly.
While it's not yet a research institution, it has become much more academically rigorous in the past few years, and it will continue to do so.

Cons

Pay is mediocre compared to similar institutions.
Some departments are understaffed. The institution prides itself on being efficient but sometimes sacrifices the effectiveness that more employees would provide.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to hire more front-line staff and do away with middle management positions. My department, for example, has five-year goals that should be reachable, but we don't currently have enough employees to meet those goals.

I worked at Lipscomb University as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

I was paid in a timely manner. The people I worked with were congenial and welcoming. I was given the freedom to plan my course as I saw fit. It was a pleasure to work with students.

    Cons

I was given no direction and no training, simply a general description of the class they wanted me to present. I had to come up with the course outline, pick the textbook and design my own "lab" time with no wet lab space to work in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please give more direction and resources to the people you hire.
