I have been working at Lloyds Banking Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lloyds has somehow managed to maintain an old school British banking culture where there is a real emphasis on supporting each other and collaborating. People coming in from other banks often remark on this. This makes it a great place to get some training as a graduate and an more pleasant environment for people seeking to get out of aggressive institutions.

    Cons

Currently the wholesale bank is shrinking as the group deleverages and the bank is increasingly risk adverse. There is clearly going to be a reduction in headcount and the opportunities to advance are extremely limited. There is also uncertaintly about the future of many business units. Many people internally critisise the management team for being to risk adverse and so giving up opportunities to make money, however the business model going forwards clearly is to be a low risk/ stable returns bank - if that is not what you are looking for then it is not likely to be the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the courage and conviction to develop a five year business plan for the wholesale bank, communicate it and stick with it.

I have been working at Lloyds Banking Group full-time

    Pros

    Collaborative, helpful and friendly people
    Good work life balance
Strong brands and ability to make things happen (slowly)
    Good underlying businesses

    Cons

Not very meritocratic (more about politics than intelligence/ability)
Highly bureaucratic - committees for everything
    Slow career progression
Poor pay rises and mediocre bonuses

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut back on red tape and committees, improve career progression and pay structures.
