Pros – In the remarketing department the work is easy to learn and easy to do. It's a steady, stable pay check with little worry about if the next one will come. Employees are given the freedom to work independently with little supervision.
Cons – Upper management only cares about the numbers in the month end reports, which is fairly standard for the financial industry. However, they pay little attention to the well-being of their employees. There is more drama in this one office than there was in my entire highschool. The remarketing manager refuses to higher males, she will not even look at a resume submitted by a male job-seeker.
We are given more work than we can feasibly complete in an 8 hour work day and face consequences if we are unable to complete the tasks. Some girls in the department are given preferential treatment and allowed to work the hours that they please with no penalty to their pay checks.
There is also little room for growth. Most upper management has been with the company since the beginning. The only chances for advancement are when a senior employee retires or passes away. Although this is usually a good sign in a company, the owners don't care what their employees do, so the managers do as little as possible - they know that they'll only lose their job if they commit a crime. My manager personally told me that she was bored with her job because there is no where to go from her position and it never changes. There is very little upward mobility. The only moves that are offered on a regular basis are across, to a different department, not up.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay more attention to the work your employees do on a daily basis and less attention to just the numbers. Follow through on what you say you are going to do. Most employees at this company take everything that is promised with a grain of salt, as 97% of the time nothing that was said comes to pass.
