Current Employee - Cashier  in  Edmonton, AB (Canada)
Current Employee - Cashier in Edmonton, AB (Canada)

Pros

- Good pay for a student
- Great environment
- Flexible schedule
- Lots of hours for new employees ( But on the long run, I'm not sure but I can see mostly everyone get 15-20 hours/week)
- Minimal supervisor
- Easy job if you don't mind remembering like 50 products code - which was only popular one : orage, onion, etc ( Not to mention around 100 more code to know )

Cons

- Rude customer/ Treat cashier like doormat
- Customer who expect us to know EVERYTHING INSIDE OUT like not putting on a code( tie code paper on the plastic bag) for a freaking-spices. And not knowing what they're buying and say we Cashier suppose to know that.
- Manager/Supervisor should get more "management" class
- Lack of communication between new hires and Front End Supervisor
- Some not-so-great co-workers

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Please be reasonable and understanding.
- Be friendly with your employees even though you dont like it

    Pros

Got a long very well with almost every co-worker and manager, managers were very understanding about my schooling and gave me time off when ever needed. It was a very low stress environment for me(although management is very stressful, you can tell). I actually regretted leaving for a higher paying and much less enjoyable job. Its great for part time, not so sure I would enjoy it as a full time career. I still keep in contact with many people I met while working there.

    Cons

Some managers cannot even manage themselves and show a complete lack of leadership and knowledge. Some other employees are very lazy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Select middle manager more carefully and upper managers need to know what its like to work on the floor of a store. Some upper management has no idea what the front line jobs even do and have never worked a day in a grocery store.
