Pros

Interesting work. Opportunities to travel. Good potential for young engineers.

Cons

Company has more interest in shareholders than employees. No respect for employees with experience and extensive knowledge base. US government can't control spending, so jobs are at risk due to sequestration.

Advice to Management

Invest in your number one asset - your employees.

    Pros

    * You get to work on really cool projects that make an impact to our nation's defense (i.e. military systems and fighter jets), science (i.e. weather satellites), and consumers (i.e. GPS satellites). * Lots of different opportunities to find your niche. * Plenty of affinity groups that you can join and executive leadership are very active in them. * They actively promote mentoring. * They promote cultural diversity and ethics.

    Cons

    * Very conservative culture. You won't find beer bashes or decorative office areas like at Google or Apple. * The promotion process is not very good.

    Advice to Management

Be sure to recognize (read: promote) the young engineers that are doing work above their salary grade before they leave. Those are the ones you need to try and retain.

  2. Very Professional, High Expectations

    Pros

Benefits, Vacation time, Interesting work. There is a generally a high degree of trust placed in individual engineering work. Fast paced.

    Cons

Some long hours. Expectation that all engineers are math whizzes. They make you feel awkward if you bring up a promotion.

    Advice to Management

Need to hand out more recognition awards
