Pros

Interesting work. Opportunities to travel. Good potential for young engineers.

Cons

Company has more interest in shareholders than employees. No respect for employees with experience and extensive knowledge base. US government can't control spending, so jobs are at risk due to sequestration.

Advice to Management

Invest in your number one asset - your employees.

    Pros

Lockheed Martin has a lot of opportunity for experience in the Defense industry. They are incredible contracts and a very diverse portfolio to work on. This is a great stepping stone and learning experience.

    Cons

Recently the company, making in excess of $40B, has started to cut a lot of costs through layoffs and benefits chopping. I understanding lowering costs and increasing profits to maintain a healthy stock price, but I'm not going to see the return of my retirement for another 30 years. Using the justification 'to be more aligned with the industry standard' isn't a company you can take pride in. I used to work for the company that was an industry leader when it came to benefits.

    Advice to Management

Cut the fat. There are so many lazy, worthless people at the company. You know who they are, and you know what they don't do. If you want to cut costs, stop paying 6-figure salaries to deadbeats and consultants. Use that money to reward your dedicated and innovative workforce.

    Pros

Very flexible work schedule. Ability for advancement. Can learn a lot of information about a lot of different technologies by moving between projects.

    Cons

Like any large company you are really just a number. Moving between projects has a formal interview process. In other words, Lockheed Martin is a huge umbrella corporation comprised of many small/medium sized companies. Can be very difficult to get another internal job. Health insurance plan is not good at all. Seems like every year more benefits erode away. With government budget cuts in defense spending... it's possible that we will see close to $400 billion dollars cut from defense over the next decade or so. This would cause Lockheed to shed somewhere in the ballpark of 12,000 jobs.

    Advice to Management

It is hard to keep good talent when other companies offer more/better benefits and opportunities. It causes the good talent to boil off and you're left with what ever is left. Make the process of moving between jobs internally easier and more streamlined instead of treating internal staff as people off the streets.
