Former Employee - Systems Integration & Test Engineer in Houston, TX

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Good benefits
Work Life Balance - the pace is slow but this allows you to not be overworked. 9/80 schedules are nice
Good location across from NASA

Cons

Put new employees fresh out of college in Houston while direct managers were based in Denver. Little contact between new members and rest of team. Led to great inefficiencies.

Slow pace

Current Employee - Operations Engineer in Fort Worth, TX

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Out by 5 PM every day, paid weekly, benefits start from the day you join, very well compensated, benefits are pretty competitive, 401k and capital accumulation plan (no pension).

    Cons

There are a few people doing cutting edge stuff, but the vast majority of people are not doing cutting edge stuff. It has been years since I have been truly challenged. The work-life-balance is so good, that it has become a con for me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a tendency to promote people based on "years of service." The corporation says it promotes based on performance, but if HR's first instinct is to "check whether you have the 'years of service' required for the job" ...it is just lip-service.
