I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Good work and life balance.
Multiple locations in DC metro area.
Flexible working hours, including telecommuting.
Pension, though no longer available to new hires.

Cons

No paid overtime in most cases.
Less emphasis on internal software development.
Limited budgets for career development, training courses.
Career growth in technical domain limited, very few level 5 and above positions.
Benefit costs are high.
Salaries not as competitive.

    I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Really good pay and benefits. Flexible work life balance. The senior / director levels really set the tone for a program. As a result, some programs are more fun, easier to handle the challenges then others.

    Cons

    Constant layoffs for last three years. System of layoff includes "bumping" which is laying off people who's jobs still exist because there is another "more qualified" person who can do the job . Management at Sunnyvale Space Systems is poor. Team work is poor. Laziness is rampant. Team dynamics are poor. Very insular culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop sheltering people who aren't contributing to solutions and who are merely pushing paper around. Learn how to lead by example and develop leadership skills instead of ignoring struggling teams. Take ownership of problem teams and replace leads who are ineffectual at influencing and negotiating and listening to the customer.
