Not nearly as good today as it was 20 years ago, Lockheed Martin still has some things to offer to employees.

    Pros

There are still exciting jobs to be found at Lockheed Martin in a number of career areas. In the technical arena, if you get tired of what you are doing you have a good opportunity to try something quite new without having to change companies.

    Cons

Upper level management at some facilities has appeared short-sighted in the management of the business areas under their control, leading to loss of business in those areas and a subsequent loss of jobs. The Corporation has made strides in industries other than Aeronautics, Space, and Defense, but in light of shrinking budgets in those areas, they could do so much more to further diversify away from those areas and into commercial ventures. Their proclamation of Full Spectrum Leadership, while good in theory, seems to be nothing more than lip service as I've seen many high-level managers completely fail in this regard and still get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to get some fresh blood into the upper levels to stop the downward spiral of the last ten years; the old ways don't work any more regardless of how noble the intent.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay is okay. There really aren't many other pros that I can think of. They're a large company, and some people might like that.

    Cons

There is zero opportunity for growth. The company is in decline and the senior management either don't care, or just want to squeeze every ounce of blood out of it before it dies. It won't go any time soon, mind you, but it will go.
The amount of process that one has to go through to get ANYTHING done is nothing short of staggering. Process, schedule and cost come before anything else. While Lockheed hasn't been caught up in any recent ethics scandals, they apply very little ethics in how they treat their employees.
They are not reinvesting any money in the company. At all. You can't even get them to buy a paperclip, never mind the proper equipment for the engineers to do their jobs.

To sum it up: Poor management, no reinvestment, treating the employees like crap, no vision and management by process have brought a once great company to its knees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit. Just quit and let someone who actually knows something about the technology, and has some interest in coming out of the stone age take your place.
