Current Employee - Systems Engineer in Washington, DC

Pros

Not a bad place to work. Decent pay. Ok benefits (not great). Culture is bureaucratic. Good place to start a career.

Cons

Lower pay and benefits in services business. Training and development opportunities have become more limited with recent budget cuts and and cost savings initiatives.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lockheed Martin spends millions each quarter to fund pension obligations. Newer employees don't get the pension and should instead receive profit sharing or some other benefit. Otherwise, they are just subsidizing the pension for employees and retirees who have the pension.

    Pros

Average Pay and compensation, not bad for the industry but also not great. Relatively secure job, you can work here the rest of your career doing the bare minimum. Work life balance can be good, gets bad once you get more senior.

    Cons

Pay/compensation isn't related to performance really, only matters a small degree. The future isn't looking so good for parts of the company. Company performance is tied to the US Gov't, so it goes up and down on a pretty predictable schedule. If your a hard worker who really wants to advance your career, you reach your limit pretty much after 5 yrs. The road to a Director or VP is at least a 20 year commitment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to what other companies are doing for employees and in the market.
