I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Company values of integrity and innovation are demonstrated daily by co-workers, challenging and rewarding work, outstanding co-workers and competitive salary.

Cons

Management is very focused on schedule and cost (as it should be) but at the expense of knowing their people's skills and value. Advancement opportunity is very limited and requires significant sales effort on employee's part.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your people, encourage frequently, present advancment opportunities, reward hard work well

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work life balance; Good Benefits; 9/80 work weeks; Pension (although this has been eliminated for new employees).

The company also has a lot of talent within its ranks at all levels. The best part of working for LM is working with the people. Even as a long term employee, I still learn something new every day on the job. This cannot be said about a lot of jobs in the workplace.

Company makes an effort to hire from within the company prior to looking outside. This is smart because the company has so much talent and its nice to see them embrace it.

    Cons

Mimimal opportunities to advance into Management.
Limited telecommuting opportunities based upon the business area and/or program.
Benefits are being downgraded with the passage of time. Hopefully they can strike a good balance and hold the benefit level otherwise this make it hard for the company to maintain current talent at all levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

LM heritage Management made decisions based on both Engineering and Financial assesements. Current Management needs to keep that as their basis for making strategic decisions in the future and not limit decisions based only on financial assessments.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Highly technical, innovative products that serve the defense and space needs of our and many NATO countries.
    Competitive salary and benefits.
    Meaningful work assignments

    Cons

Frequent restructuring and leadership changes leads to frequent direction changes in business operations and methods. Gets disruptive to workforce. At time middle management directs tasks without asking listening to or asking for ideas and concerns of those tasked with carrying them out. Often times work-life balance is work focused, unless you are in leadership positions.
    Becoming increasing politically correct

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask and listen to those that report to you. They have the skill set you may not have during periods of reassignments and restructuring. Do not sign up for things without having the input of those tasked with fulfilling those commitments.
