Pros

Good place to start your career. Large company with opportunities to get involved with many aspects of engineering. Many organizations seem to truly care about the welfare of their employees.

Cons

It is difficult to advance and stay on the technical track - there is a lot of pressure to assume lead positions which are supposed to be technical but involve too many aspects of a management job. There are a lot of processes which must be followed which are supposed to enhance the quality of the delivered product but which end up making the company much less agile and its labor cost too high when compared with competitors.

Advice to Management

There is currently a lot of focus on the younger employees through several leadership development programs, etc. Not much consideration is given to the experienced employees and being able to place them in technical positions that they are interested in. This needs to change if the experienced eimployees are going to be retained.

    Pros

Great Benefits. Get on good Program.

    Cons

Stay away from the Deepwater Program......disaster.

    Advice to Management

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Stop patting each other on the back and listen to the lower level employees.

Good first job, but maybe not the best long-term career decision

    Pros

Good first job with fair compensation right out of school. The nine by eighty (9 work days x 80 hours) work week is a definate plus that gives you time to have a life outside of your job. And finally, it is a company that I am proud to work for.

    Cons

Many of the promotions are handled on a tenure basis and not necessarily on the quality and quantity of your work. This is especially true for employees that have been around for a few years and want to take the next step, but don't have 5+ years under their belts yet.

    Advice to Management

Understand that the only reason retention is a problem for the younger generation is the fact that HR limits our compensation and career growth based on our tenure and not the quality of the work we put forth.
