I have been working at Loma Linda University Medical Center

Pros

A few notable doctors that you have the opportunity to work with and the only major academic medical center in the Inland Empire

Cons

Terrible management that plays favoritism to friends/family, workplace is very clique based in that most people who work here have known each other for many years or grew up in Loma Linda (if you aren't part of the "crowd" or if you aren't Seventh Day Adventist you are immediately cast as an outsider ), poor advancement opportunities (unless you make best pals with your supervisor), very bad compensation compared to market value, and poor patient care (nurses run the show here and treat doctor's horribly...doctors have very little authority at LLU.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's not much you can do to help management as they are workplace and personal pals outside of LLU - most management is severely handicapped by their lack of knowledge or "life outside of LLU" experience. I would highly recommend they follow national standards of compensation and treatment of employees while allowing there to be accountability for management. Management is completely over-protected and there is no accountability among management.

I have been working at Loma Linda University Medical Center

    Pros

Excellent place for medical benefits. High level professional team.

    Cons

Working overtime and extra time is valued, working a balanced schedule is difficult because the extra work is seen as missionary service and important. This tends to contribute to burnout.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that programs are well designed and organized and managed appropriately.

I worked at Loma Linda University Medical Center

    Pros

Strong mission focus from administration, competitive compensation and benefit package, great opportunities for research. Must enjoy working in a teaching environment.

    Cons

Dealing with institutional mentality - the idea that a job in the medical field offers lifetime security, change can be slow, parking around institution can be challenging

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dealing with institutional mentality can be frustrating in times of economic change. It is important in communicating to your staff to find positive ways to deal with changing conditions and getting the employees to "buy in" to the idea that external changes bring about internal opportunities for growth.
