Customer experience was good, but I was not challenged and quickly became bored with my responsibilities.

I worked at Lord & Taylor

Pros

1. Recognizable brand and strong reputation 2. Great employee discount and great products 3. Clean, manageable environment for starting in retail

Cons

2. Customers can be over-demanding 3. Co-workers can be problematic/relentless due the opportunity to earn commissions and daily bonuses 4. May not offer enough challenge in associate positions-- can get redundant 5. On your feet all day AND you don't move around that much

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more of a presence. Continue rewarding good salesmanship, but also reward teamwork. Find ways to minimize the presence of inner competition that can hurt the progress of the store.

    Pros

Nothing at allf I had to choose then I would say nice customers- they are so desperate for help and attention.

    Cons

It is a shame the way this company treats its employees. They treat their customers pretty bad too. They hardly have sales people on the floor and then wonder why there are so many complaints. Customers have to look high and low to get help. There is a lot of favoritism going on in the store but no loyalty. Longtime employees fired for no real good reason. They try really hard to be an like Saks and Nordstroms but hey are sadly still a crappy little store that makes their employees miserable. The location in White Flint in Kensington MD is especially sad and led by some real losers. This location relies heavily on the wealthy aging clientele for business- and don't care to grow their business by building relationships. This store is dying a slow death and it is evident that the company is as a whole is selfish, cheap and all together a low class company to work for. They make Macy's look like a class act.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do an internship at Nordstrom and get a clue.

I worked at Lord & Taylor

    Pros

Some of the other sales associates were wonderful, others were difficult. Decent discount, but needed to open Lord & Taylor card to use it.

    Cons

Departments that are commission-based encourage associates to fight over customers, creating embarrassing situations for the associates and the company. Schedule was rigid and made other responsibilities, such as school, another, and family matters, almost impossible to attend to. The store discount, one of the few perks, can only be used by opening up a store credit card.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management seems to lack any trust or respect for associates, allowing them little real responsibility and treating them like children.
