Current Employee - Project Engineer Manager in Los Angeles, CA

Pros

Getting experience on large scale projects. Training was available within the City and in universities in Southern California, The City encourages getting board certification in my field and pay for courses that help achieving such certifications. It is a Civil Service System and you are protected in slow economy from being laid off.

Cons

It is salaried position so there is a roof on how much you would be making.

Recommends
Neutral Outlook

    Pros

Great pension, medical/dental benefits provided for part-time employees. Friendly and culturally diverse work environment. Networking and interaction with employees of many levels with in a company.

    Cons

Some times the only way to get promoted or to advance was solely based on who you knew. Too many lazy employees who would do just the minimum to keep their job. Some times there is an "every-man-for-himself" mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to become more engaged with employees and actually get know who they are on a professional and personal level.
