Pros

the experience i had there at a low performing school wasnt the best administration or parent participation wise, but it did prepare me for a great career in education.

Cons

the cons are as followed: the culture of the union, the culture of the administration, the culture of a community not benefited by the aforementioned.

    Pros

Decent benefits for now, nice students, great colleagues that care about kids.

    Cons

Too much standardized testing. The district is not overly organized. One department doesn"t seem to know what others are doing, so you end up spending a lot of time getting kids ready for test rather than being able to teach a full curriculum.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people who work at the school sites instead of all the paid consultants who spend little or no time in the classroom. Some of them are too far away from the classroom to fully understand the day to day realities experiences by students and the school site personnel.

  2. Have you ever seen the movie "Brazil? It's based on LAUSD.

    Pros

Not working for a corporation, doing a social good, some union protection against overly abusive supervisors, good work/life balance and benefits.

    Cons

Massive institution that sometimes doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Lots of paperwork. Mostly good people but some idiots who definitely should not be employed there (or anywhere) and you have to deal with them. Can be political.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together. Streamline. Come up with one set of rules and stick to them.
