Pros

Dedicated, hard-working teachers and great colleagues.

Good role models (some) to look up to as a new teacher.

Cons

Incompetent, unsupportive, constantly overturning administration
Unruly students - have to fight to teach

Every experience is different, since every school is different, but my experience was less than stellar. Makes me question if I will ever teach in the United States again - right now I am on an international assignment in El Salvador.

Advice to Management

Your incompetency, irresponsibility, and lack of how to create a supportive or enjoyable work environment will never cease to amaze me. Try investing in people, supporting new teachers, and recruiting volunteers for all the things you are either too busy or too lazy to do.

    Pros

Some really great and dedicated people are there.

    Cons

Unfortunately, those that are dedicated and treat teachers with respect, are leaving because of upper management at LAUSD.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of John Deasy.

  2. Tough time for new teachers

    Pros

Large company and higher pay than other school districts. Great access to professional development opportunities, if you know where to look. Lots of amazing educational professionals.

    Cons

Large company and the bureaucracy is mind numbing. Educators are subject to furlough days and pay cuts while expected to raise test scores and improve student achievement. The math just doesn't add up.
