I worked at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Low stress if all you want is a paycheck and do not rock the boat (go with the flow without questions.) Job preservation has been given priority (be it presure from unions and/or non-unionized employees...)

Cons

Highly political, management heavy, budget issues have resulted in very low morale. New employee benefits (pension and such) more stringent that for those already there 20+ years.

Advice to Management

Do not allow politics to overrule sound judgement.

I have been working at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, autonomy, opportunities for Saturday and Summer school--60.00 hourly pay

    Cons

LAUSD is a mess because of BAD administration. Terrible principals, period. It is not usually the teachers.

    Advice to Management

Be instructional leaders! No one cares about your criticism until you build relationships. Get a book on leadership, because most of you sorely need it.

  2. As a teacher, I was not respected or treated as a professional.

I worked at Los Angeles USD full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some really great and dedicated people are there.

    Cons

Unfortunately, those that are dedicated and treat teachers with respect, are leaving because of upper management at LAUSD.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of John Deasy.
