No opinion of CEO

Pros

-Good Benefits for a major retailer, including health and 401k -Opportunity to advance to many different positions within the company

Cons

Opportunity to advance, it is hard to get an interview for desired positions in the corporate center unless you know someone, and even then, I've heard it's difficult.

Advice to Management

Give better direction to employees who aspire to advance in the company, I have many times told management in my store what I aspire to do and they say good luck, with no real direction or path I feel frustrated.

    Pros

You have the means to learn a lot about most aspects of home improvement. The benefits are good. And most of the day you're not closely supervised.

    Cons

They recently eliminated the commission potential for most positions. Rotating shifts make having structure in your life outside of work very difficult. Half of the year the store is open until 10p, which is ridiculous. Most managers are just khaki's, haircuts, and butt-kissers that believe raising expectations and goals is the best and only way to produce results. Good luck on getting a straight answer or creative guidance from any of them. And the company is in the middle of a overhaul, so who knows what's next. Seems like most positions above $10 an hour are about to be replaced by in-store information technologies.

    Advice to Management

You're making a big mistake taking the human element out of the employee side of the business. Lowe's was a good middle ground between big box and mom & pop places. M&P's don't have the buying power to offer great prices, but big boxes have been and will be ridiculed for being anti-personal and uneducated. A guy like me in a Lowe's in his hometown was the best of both. We all know it's not that anybody thinks anybody will be more satisfied with a warehouse full of kids getting $10/hr for showing people things on iPhones, it's all about executives & shareholders getting more and more money. It works with selling toothpaste at Walmart, not everything home improvement. Your grandfathers would be ashamed of you.

    Pros

good group if employees. discounts ssei payouts accident free days cookout

    Cons

Hours are crazy. You open 2 days close four days.

    Advice to Management

You need to get better HR Managers. They turn down people who have a lot of experience in construction who have lost their jobs due to the economy.
