I worked at Lowe's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    good co-workers and good benefits

    Cons

Upper management is completely out of touch with the real world. Introduced a new position "Project Specialist Interiors" which offered a Specialist to sell, coordinate and completely run kitchen and remodeling projects. Management refused to advertise and then blames the Specialists when people did not come in for this service. Big Box stores are geared towards budget and do-it-yourself projects, this new offering is not going to grow if the public doesn't know about it and it is stupid to blame the Specialist. Also Upper management keeps cutting salaries and benefits for workers under the pretense it is better for them...when it isn't...and never cut their own salaries

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The "My Lowes" card isn't going to bring people into the store. Advertise good prices and programs, that's what consumers are looking for

    I worked at Lowe's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers, pay for retail was decent

    Cons

Very unorganized from store manager to ASM's. Unrealistic goals for department managers poor staffing and quality of some employees and customer service. Some stores are probably better than others. Loss prevention is a waste of company funds unless they're just there to make sure the employees aren't stealing because they sure as hell don't do anything else.
I left for Home Depot to assume an ASM position and while it is still retail and highly stressful the systems are better organized and enforced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You will never beat Home Depot because the company is not an innovator, and what I mean by that is it doesn't strive to be better. It is happy at the status quo making and striving to beat their previous revenue and thats it. So what that your stores are alittle cleaner, that will suffice for the average soccer mom. Men spend more money at home improvement stores and don't care about dusty warehouse's. To corporate, walk your stores undercover and see what really goes on and you will be shocked.
