Pros

I worked at this company for almost 15 years and feel overall it's a good company. It paid higher than other ones in the the area. They have an employee discount of 10%, medical and dental benefits and stock plan.

Cons

They don't pay as well as I think they should. After working there for almost 15 years I was only making $12.30 an hour. For a lot of the jobs they only want to hire people that have college degrees no matter if the person has done the job previously. Once in a particular job it's very hard to move to another one. At least that's what I found by not having a college degree.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to be more open to interviewing and hiring people without the college degree. Experience should be taken into consideration.

Current Employee - Seasonal Associate in Starkville, MS

    Pros

    Friendly and sometimes helpful co-workers.
Opportunity to learn and share useful information with customers.
Full lunch breaks, clean break rooms and on-site HR person.

    Cons

New hires are grossly underpaid, overworked and given the worse hours with no opportunity
    for advancement.
Management is slowly shifting all the work hours to the new part-timers and temps and giving
    the stores unrealistic sales goals.
    Hiring is bureaucratic and biased.
Sales are falling and management has no new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many stores in marginal locations (1755 stores).
Reduce your SGA expenses to levels comparable to Home Depot.
Combine all the associates into one class, cross-train them for different depts. and pay
a fair wage based on productivity not senior status.
HR needs less interviews and more real hiring.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
