Lowe's Employee Review
Lowe's – “Safety?”

Indoor, most of the time you are out of the rain but watch out for code 44 (shopping cart run.) For the Abilene area, in pay, they are just above middle ground. It's actually not a bad place to work as there are a few Zone managers that really care and will listen to problems. I tell people that if they will have a couple of possible solutions ready whenever they talk to these managers, positive action is much more likely.
Cons
Justice is very one-sided at Lowe's. They control the camera's and ANYBODY, (Read, Employees, NEVER Zone managers.) can be accused of wasting time or doing something against the 'rules'. As far as safety? As long as it doesn't interfere with the manager and Zones getting a fat bonus for cutting hours to the Bone, Safety is number One.
Advice to Senior Management
Do as good a job at employee record keeping, (Time Clock Mis Punches, sick time postings on the clock just like we are told to do but HR dosn't catch it and we don't get payed.) As you do at store material management. Except just after the Truck stuff is being brought out to the floor and being stocked, the Store overall looks very good thanks to hard work. Pet Peve: Look at Safety closer. I see too many employees that should have gotten help lifting something and they are getting hurt. Most won't say anything for fear of reprisals. Also, I see delivery drivers being sent out with heavy loads ALONE! This is not safe and it is not good for customer relations. In the lumber department, I see too many customers bringing down large and long boards while red vest walk right on by. Lumber is always short handed so more help and better management oversight will help the image and thus, the bottom line. Also: No matter how good our store looks, when people are ready to check out, they are READY! We don't need more checkers but we need 'minute men checkers' that can come running when code 3 is called. Lunch hours are the worst times but for a lot of our shoppers, that's when they can shop. One thing that would help all the above is for management to loosen up on store hours. In other words; stop being afraid to call someone in when key people call in sick. Way Overworking the employees only get's them to quit. Lowe's thinks that they have everyone 'over the barrel' because of the economy, but here in West Texas, were not afraid to look for a better job, or at least one that's fairer with the hired help.
One last thing: Whenever management reprimands an employee, they should provide copies of all written paperwork. Also, an employee should ALWAYS have access to his/her files. If it has an employee's name on it, then it is NOT exclusive Lowe's property.

I know how salaried managers are BONUS BONUS BONUS driven at whatever the cost of personal ethics, family values or physical health. If you question anyone in upper management regarding anything about procedure or policy, expect a rebuttal reply or a future reprimand, in some cases, depending if your a favorite of the Manager or not, will determine if you are retaliated against or not! I have worked in several stores, where Management had unlimited power and even greater ego's about who they were and what the world was all about according to the limitless Lowe's Policies and/or Corporate said so, philosophies. I think once you become manager, it is an un written policy that you have to become a greater liar and even moreso, a powerful dictator. I have watched management, verbally and repetitivly chastize an employee to the point of either tears or hostility. In one store, I saw a Zone physically shake his finger within 2 inches of an Associate's face and literally cuss at the employee and criticize the employees knowledge and/ or credibilities, in front of other employees and customers. An Hourly employee can be written up for anything that a Manager desires to incorporate into or as a Lowe's Policy, along with mental intimidation up to and including termination." Lowe's is a very Large Company with many knowlegable persons. I am in the middle age of life (50's) and have worked since I was a young(14 year old) teenager. But even back then management respected who they had working for them and moreso, was very consistant in making certain that the customer knew the Lowe's that they shopped at was THEIR Lowe's and that the employee was their personal friend and representative, just like you would be if you were in their personal homes. All I can say to you West Texas people, is continue to be who you are and remember who were before Lowe's and who you are where ever you go.

Several times, I have overheard members of Management brag about bonuses and how cutting hours at all cost, is the only sure fire way to get them. They are pushing people to the brink and it is very easy to see it. I have watched a few quietly leave Lowe's with one saying to me that they are leaving Before going Postal. A few were X Vietnam Special Forces Vets. These people, I admire without end, because they would rather give up a job rather than let circumstances get to a point that makes it on Fox news. I will soon be one of these people and I used to be torn between thinking that I was running away or standing and fighting for what I believe is right. It's a hard decision because we all know how well this country takes care of it's Vets :-( A lot of Vets are trapped in these stinking, no respect jobs because of one factor that can be a life or death situation: health Care. The wages are bad enough but more and more, Health Care is the BugABoo that keeps people at these jobs. I have decided, 'hell with it.' I would rather die free than compromise my soul to 'today's' ethics in the workplace. This, 'everyone's a low life thief so we must record everything they do' work culture is just no-longer tolerable for me because it's not the America that I fought to protect.
Again, I am watching one person at my Lowe's and I can only hope that they will decide that it's time to walk away and not let Lowe's Corporate ethics ruin a lifetime of hard won self-respect and admiration by family and co-workers.
Young people, I tell you the same thing! Go find a business you can start or start now in setting down and gathering a list of your goals and Go For It! Or you will one day find that it's years later and the place you gave your all, for, did nothing but suck years out of your life for damn little in return.
Be well and safe everyone!

play with management according to their rules and or whtever rules(policies) that were created for the day, then they were not promoted.
The Texas area Human Resource Managers from the store level to the Regional level hold true to "Management decides your rights..." They do not care about Labor Rights, Employee injuries or well being! If you have a medical issue, they will find a way to harrass you into quitting or create a policy that will get you written up enough to justify them terminating you. Lowe's will spend millions of dollars on Jimmie Johnson, but will not give a proven sales specialist more than a 2% pay raise. They control your health insurance like workers comp and control the treatment process, so that they treat you minimumally but just enough to prevent you from being fully covered and then you have to use your personal insurance at which time you return to work and 3 out of 5 people are told, "We can't let you come back to work until your 100%, That comes from corporate" With that said, I have to apologize to my Dad, because he was right, "Good old boys /Pets & Brownnosers are 90% of the everyday worker at Lowe's.
But those who are like that are not what morals and ethics are about in my College of Business nor my Dad's life of work experience over 50 years. I'm glad to be an EX Lowe's employee, Working for Lowe's taught me NOT which way to go.
