I have been working at Lowe's part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

New Store manager has turned moral around immensely

    Cons

Irregular work hours for Part-time workers, pressure on cashiers to sell extra protection plans, result in being written up or fired.
Zone mgr management style: intimidation. creates a negative, unproductive work environment
Have taken away perks, such as holiday parties, giving turkeys away at Thanks giving.
Cares more about customers than employee's.
Regional and In-House HR comes seems to side with mgt other than employee complaints. Nothing is done
Employee discounts are the same as Veteran discounts, 10%
    Unfair labor practices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate management staff that are not friendly. Require all management MOD's, zone managers and head cashiers. to go through a management training program or have a degree in business management. Largest percent of managers in my store do not have a degree and have no clue how to manage people.

    Eliminate matrix scheduling.
New workers work night shift and holidays
Regular day shift or night shift only, Instead of irregular hours. If you are the new employee, work nights and weekends.
Not all jobs opportunities are posted, new PT employee (4 months) was given a full time position 8-5 pm, Mon-Fri. Job was not posted. Veteran PT employees were not made aware.

Employees are more important than customers and stock holders. If you don't have them, you don't have a company.

Overall, company seems to care more about stock holders than employees. Learn from Costco , StarBucks and Google management style. Incorporate their styles and you will have a more successful company
