I have been working at Lowes Foods

Pros

Hourly positions get paid weekly.
Flexible scheduling for PT positions.
Nice benefits if your FT but they rarely hire anyone FT.
The pay is reasonable.

Cons

New employees are not trained well. Manager rely on people who haven't been there long themselves to train new hires, when it should be the department manager job to make sure this person is trained properly. It's not how it was a few years back when the dept. managers actually took time out to do this. Things most certainly have changed.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put yourself in our shoes sometime, ask what's going on for a change and what can be done to improve work condition and expectation for employees. Instead you pile on more and more responsibilities on our plates and wonder why it doesn't get done on time. If Lowe's Food actually took the time to and listen to their employees; not only listen but actually made an effort to fix the flaws, it would be a wonderful place to work for.

    I worked at Lowes Foods

    Pros

Great people, many with decades of service for the company.
One of the better paying employers in the area.
Very well managed, fair, and transparent for a privately held company.
Competent and caring leadership at the top.

    Cons

    Fairly conservative workplace
    Male dominated store management
Tendency to over utilize random drug testing without sufficient review of chain of custody procedures in stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the drug testing policies and procedures.
Improve the gender balance in store management.
Improve the dress code of store staff to dark pants instead of khakis- they always look dirty.

I have been working at Lowes Foods full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the best things about working for this company has been having great co-workers. Many have become lifelong friends.

    Cons

One of the greatest challenges in working for this company is the constant desire by store management and corporate to cut labor while increasing expectations and piling more and more work on fewer people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before seeking the advice of a foreign branding guru (as you have already done), you would benefit greatly from seeking the advice and ideas of the people who are in your stores day-in and day-out...your employees. Many have great ideas on how to improve the company but are discouraged to voice them because they don't fit in with the current changes the company is trying to implement.
