Pros

Relatively good pay, fairly stable employment.

Cons

Politics a major factor. Departments don't work well with one another. Very little chance to be creative in the last few years due to large slow projects eating away all the resources.

I worked at Luminex full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The technology has incredible potential, they hire excellent support and technical staff members that are motivated to learn and take their jobs very seriously. They have great potential and who can leave out location, Austin is a great place to live. Sadly, entry level to First Level Management does all of the work and their talent goes unrecognized and walks out their doors every day due to a miserable work environment, even in a tough job market, which speaks volumes of the work environment. They have a lot of money within their niche market which allows them to buy market share, that could be both a pro and a con, I don't see this company going the distance under current ownership and management and this tone is ultimately set by the CEO creating a trickle down affect which the hardest working employees pay for daily.

    Cons

Management is in CONSTANT flux, everyday brings another reorganization, constant turnover indicative of the worst management team I have ever seen in my entire career. It's sad because so many great employees do their jobs and are very committed to the company but the company has NO commitment to it's employees, the amount of turnover is such a waste of talent, time and resources. There is no direction anywhere in this company and eventually it's hard to maintain any enthusiasm for a company that employs and promotes such a dysfunctional management team. The problems are systemic, from the CEO down by creating a "good ole boy network" that hires and promotes solely based on who knows who and NOT who knows what and it will lead to their demise. You do not want to work here unless you enjoy constant chaos and reorganizations. It is a toxic management team that has a complete lack of respect for it's strong pool of talent that management will never recognize or grow. As for the technology itself, it's complicated and not user friendly and they lack the ability to identify the issues much less remedy them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the absurd amount of turnover in this company and start growing, cu,ti acting and promoting talent from within the company, from the talent pool that does all of the work. There are so many markets that they are not able to to focus any meaningful attention on any one area, they are spread too thin which leads to quantity but a complete and utter lack of quality. This works for them in the short term because they are able to throw money at their problems, but long term I don't see Luminex as a contender, it's already showing in their stock price. Nothing will change while current management is focussed on what they can take for themselves and they will drink from the well that their employees and shareholders have filled, that is until it runs dry. The problem is the employees doing all of the work won't have massive salaries to fall back on. This management team has no moral compass and it reflects in their day to day dealings. RECOGNIZE, harness and cultivate the talent from your employee pool and stop hiring more entitled, lackluster and overpaid outsiders. Lead by example and not by fear -, until this happens, Luminex will continue to burn through talent that their competitors will be glad to have.

I have been working at Luminex full-time

    Pros

Senior mgmt is paid well above market average.

    Cons

For a company so small, they are very top heavy and VPs are paid extravagantly in salaries, bonuses, and stock options. It's a mystery how they can justify to have so many VPs considering their sales numbers are so small by comparison. It's a good old boys club, and so there is not career advancement unless you are in the club. They think they are a progressive and innovative company, but they will soon be losing vast amounts of market share to newer technologies. It's amazing they have kept the investment community so intrigued for so long and managed to keep their stock price up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have you walked around the company- every cubicle, every little nook and corner, and really asked if your employees like working for you or in the oppressive culture? Have you looked at why you have had a high turnover of some top caliber people in the past 5 years? Have you thought about anything besides your self? Have you ever heard of Servant based leadership?
