I have been working at Luxottica part-time (less than an year)

Pros

The unbeatable half off discount for employees. It's so worth it because of that alone.

Cons

You do have to work by yourself a lot, but there is usually some overlap!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice to have a little more incentive to want to stay with the company. Maybe a better chance at a raise?

A combination of a fun and professional environment but the only objective is immediate results.

I have been working at Luxottica part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Dynamic environment which combines both micro-level personal selling and customer service. The small teams within stores develop camaraderie among associates you make some pretty good friends on the job. The job is for a certain personality.

    Cons

Retail end has a tall management structure inviting may invite heavy micromanagement. Business is heavily oriented on sales goals and support activities. The over-saturation of retail stores leads to heavy competition between sales associates and stores within the same mall.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aggressive on company-level marketing efforts than individual associate selling abilities. Many retail associates feel very discouraged when stores experience slow traffic/sales and management will hear nothing of it.

Current Employee - Sales Associate/Lab Technician in Portland, OR

I have been working at Luxottica full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Yearly free pair of glasses (prescription or plano) valued up to $500
-There really are a few good people working here, genuine and hardworking, heavy on the "few"
-The ability to go anywhere and still maintain employment for the same company
    -Tuition Reimbursement

    Cons

-Sudden cuts in hours leaving you to fend for yourself
-Heavy favoritism with no regard to merit or ability
    -Consistant nepotism
-Almost all upper management positions are filled from outside of the company rather than promoting from within, especially at the corporate level
-Heaps of hours, overtime (which is expected to be done off the clock) and unrealistic sales expectations; then no hours, scrounging for shifts and still unrealistic sales expectations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the talent that is all around you! There are so many eager and deserving employees already within the company who are more than qualified to move up in corporate ladder, but because they do well where they are, you keep them there and fill in these new positions with outsiders, people with no business in optics (and no business in management in some cases). Believe in your employees and their ability to grow, they may surprise you.
