    Current Employee - Store Manager

I have been working at Luxottica full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Good paid vacation
    -Good discount
    -Pretty decent benefits
    -Some really great colleagues
-If you're into fashion, its a great place to stay updated on trends
-Good commission program if you're in a store that's performing

    Cons

-Lack of consistency with middle/upper management. There are always "favorites."
-RM's no longer listen to their management teams. All they want to hear is cheer-leading instead of discussing the challenges of a decreasing customer base and helping to come up with proactive solutions.
-Extremely corporate now. Prices keep going up, out-sourced manufacturing to China is increasing, and yet horribly insufficient payroll hours are cut further.
-Corporate believes that all ideas that look great on paper are realistic on the store level.
    -Employees are taken advantage of
-CONSTANT last minute changes to visuals, promotions, merchandising etc. No prior communications, no time to plan; Just the expectation to flawlessly execute tasks with only one person in the store who is also responsible for all other tasks set and planned for the day on top of all customer service.
-Very low pay for managers who are promoted from within. External candidates are paid much more than those who have already paid their dues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to the company's original values. Support your store managers and increase payroll. Plan your visuals, promos better, make them more organized, and then send them to stores; It would severely decrease store-level chaos and stress.

I have been working at Luxottica part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Commission (when we did get it) was great and I sometimes made double my paycheck just from commission
I truly enjoyed working with customers and helped them by fixing glasses and sometimes just listening to them talk
Sold many of pairs of glasses, made my goal nearly every week
In the 6+months that I was there, I made the store over 100K in sales
Interesting employees that were great to work with

    Cons

Had to "recruit" other people before I could get promoted.
High turnover rate. During my short time there, about 7 people quit or were fired
Alot of catty, coy behavior from upper management and other employees
Rude store manager that stole sales, hours, and said cruel things about former employees and often criticized employees
Promotions can be given based on who upper management likes or are friends with, not who is the highest performing associate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to get their priorities straight. Promote from within and also don't hold employees hostage by not allowing them to be promoted unless they recruit people.
