I have been working at Lyft part-time for less than a year

Pros

Flexible scheduling, easy scheduling interface, great support team. It's a great way to make your car holistically useful to the community at large while making good money. The smartphone integrated system is easy, thoughtfully designed and fast.

Cons

Almost all communication with support and management is via email and text message so if you're not comfortable with communicating almost exclusively via tech this may not be the job for you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're doing a great job so far. Keep it up!

Great opportunity for easy money if you are a good driver and have access to a car.

I have been working at Lyft full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Its very flexible. You can work whenever you want or not work without worrying about the schedule. People are generally very friendly. You get paid weekly. Pay is pretty good.

    Cons

Can be hard on your body. Driving gets tiresome. It can also get pretty boring because you constantly have the exact same conversation over and over. Also the management is always threatening to terminate you if you don't have prefect feedback from customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please try to give drivers who got a low rating really detailed feedback as to what they have done wrong and how to improve.

I have been working at Lyft as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Great way to make money with the flexibility to work on other projects. Overall the experience is great. People for the most part are friendly and respectful of the fact that it is your personal vehicle. On a busy weekend in San Diego, a driver can do well income wise.

    Cons

Rating system, it is bit ridiculous. When you break it down. It is a reverse star system, drivers are expected to get 5 stars and then get stars removed for bad service. Logical the rating system alone is flawed, normally people rate the other way. Think about restaurant, hotels. Five stars is for exceptional service normally, a four star is a good normal rating, three is average and so on. With that in mind a mixture of 4 and 5 stars rating would be 4.5 and above.

As for the most part rating can be reliable source of data to judge with a large enough pool to sample from. Keeping in mind, people will not always happy, nothing you do will make them happy, bad rating will exist. You ask someone not to smoke in your car, can end up with a less of a rating as ridiculous as that. People will often times be drunk, and goes without saying, not all people are nice happy drunks. Keeping quiet, and and hoping that the ride goes smoothly, sometimes works.

There is no security check for the passenger, no requirement for a real photo for their profile. The assumption, is lyft has a credit card as verification. However even that can be a prepaid card. Prepaid phone, with a prepaid credit card, and now you can have a fictitious person in your car. Not dissimilar from a taxi in driver safety. Just we don't have cash, however we have personal cars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The rating system, and driver safety, needs reevaluation. It should not be a rating war, customers service is one thing. Unrealistic expectations will only result in disappointment with a high driver turn over rate.
