I have been working at Lyris full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Great people, solid office of knowledge. Attitude and motivation is around moving their new product forward. Relaxed dress code and work hours in conjunction with an employee lounge of games and free drinks make long nights easier.

Cons

Sometimes too much pressure to do more with less. Does not always try to immediately replace talent, rather relies on backfilling employee responsibility which can result in overworked staff.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a positive attitude, check in with all roles often on what they may add to the table. Don't be afraid to admit mistakes, take more product training, and learn about how their predecessors might have failed.

    Pros

    Excellent Benefits
Average Base and Comp Package for Sales
    Support Team is terrific
Engineering team is very responsive and helpful to Sales
Team work is a manditory requirement
Feature set is rich and offers all the bells and whistles that Marketeers need and require

    Cons

Sales Quota is monthly not quarterly, although you might be the top sales person responsible for highes percentages of revenues per annum, if you miss your number one month, or two months, chances are you will need to start looking for another job. doesn't seem right but that's the facts.

Beware of new manangement coming on board and bringing their own team, Upper Management lets this happen at the expense of employees who had seniority. Lead generation is through Salesforce and expect to make a lot of cold calls. If you bring on a client that is not a right fit for the company, chances are they will try and cancel their contract (1 year) and you will suffer a clawback, so no spammers!!!

Lyris is five companies that merged together to offer a complete Portal Marketing solution, email marketing, web analytics, ppc, variable marketing reports, content and creation, open source API available for clients, and much more. Many customers only want to buy 1/3 of what they offer and really do not need or want the rest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the revenues that each Sales person is contributing per year especially since your quota is monthly.

Make sure that new upper Management in Sales, the VP or Director, are not giving preferential treatment to their hires and the sales people that they are bringing with them from a past company. Past company hires in bulk should be a red flag!

Familiarize yourself with the top contributors of the team. If you are asking a sales person to assist with Collections, they are helping the company and that time they have taken out of their time for new business generation needs to be recognized as a positive not a negative. Afterall this is helping the company overall.
