    I worked at M/A/R/C Research full-time

    Pros

For the most part, the people that work there are nice. Pay is decent for the low-level workers, but don't expect much of a raise (if any) as they pile on the tasks and hours. Work-life balance can be good - that's if you're one of the lucky ones that has the opportunity to work from home. It's best if you have kids... they are a lot more tolerant and accepting to those with families.

    Cons

The office is cramped and quite embarassing to show any client. There's lack of "real" leadership from CEO. His love for sports overshadows his passion for the company. Working there is like being stuck in a small town that hates you and you just can't get out fast enough. There's a ton of gossip (probably from most people working there 10-15+ years together). Some positions have the possibility of career advancement, but it is rare. And depending on who your manager is, responding to an email at 1am may be required.

If you don't fit in, life at M/A/R/C is tough. It's all politics even though it is a small company. Everyone has their own way of doing things and upper management bickers like 4-year olds arguing during recess. There's also poor judgement on who is doing the actual work and who is strolling through the motions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More action is needed in career/growth opportunities for those just entering the organization. Get a CEO that cares more about building/retaining a company than whether or not the Red Sox win the next home game. CEO is detached, management is cranky and the culture management speaks of "in the good days" is dead.

I worked at M/A/R/C Research full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful history on talented researchers....and a well deserved reputation in the market.

    Cons

The CEO has no clue of what industry he is in and what it takes to prepare for the future. He's rather go to sporting events and blog about himself than try and learn about the business he is in. He's run things on fear and efficiency and starved the business of new ideas, new perspective and new blood. Same management team for the last 10 years. Stale and mediocre.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the CEO go back to data collection and the panel business and get a real leader.
