    Pros

Strong artistry training both at the beginning of employment and regular training updates throughout the year. Very generous staff discount and gratis program. Very loyal, mostly knowledgeable customer base. Good compensation.

    Cons

Absolutely no work/life balance. Complete disconnect between field management (MRO), store management and corporate office. Unrealistic expectations both financial and managerial. No confidential employee ethics resolution program (they have a program but it is NOT confidential as it is run by the corporate HR department not an outside neutral company). Promotions based on popularity not ability. Don't think outside the box, inside the box, don't think at all.

    Advice to Management

We were asked to manage our location and staff, take ownership of our business, yet we were constantly micro managed, yelled at, debased. Successes were ignored and problems magnified all in an attempt to divide and conquer. While it may be an interesting way to manage people, over the long term you have left a wide swath of dissatisfaction and resentment among your current and former employees. Why would anyone try and give their best when their best is consistantly minimized and each perceived flaw is magnified beyond all reason.

    Pros

Have great training for products and they teach you many techniques. discount is fantastic at 60% off at any MAC with your staff card, also works online. Many opportunities to grow.

    Cons

Scheduling is always a hassle, can't request any weekends off (even if it's for your sister's wedding!!) if you work for a counter at a Nordstrom, cosmetics managers are forever on your case and you don't have the liberty to express your makeup like you want to, it has to be nordstrom standards. Other MAC artist can be a bit cocky, get over it, we are all artist get the stick out of your butt. Lately, they would hire anyone who can sell but can't do a stitch of makeup.

    Advice to Management

listen to your employees. Have MRO's for counters, have resident trainers and trainers at counters more often. Don't bombard your employees with events (Nordstrom), its crazy. Stop hiring people who can't do makeup expecting them to learn while they are working at MAC!
