Current Employee – been working at MGM Grand Hotel
Pros – I worked in the back of house. Great company to work for, interesting industry from a business standpoint. Great starting point to get to Vegas if you so desire. People are amazing. You can't walk around with your head down there, always someone saying hi or asking you how your doing. Truly a pleasant environment. Free meals are a great plus.
Cons – Detroit.
Disconnect between some departments (especially audit and the rest of the company)
Free meals will make you fat quickly.
They bring in companies to sell things at lunch periodically which are supposedly "deals" but are actually much more expensive. With the added bonus of payroll deduction, the company is really hurting their employees, most of which are essentially blue collar workers.
Advice to Senior Management – Community involvement and other "team building" activities are great but feel forced down your throat sometimes. Communicate useful information to employees. Stop offering things to sell in the lunch room! You're essentially making your employees spend their money because they think they're getting good deals.
