Pros

Their resorts are some of the best by far. MGM, ARIA and Bellagio are quite nice. They have a pretty standard corporate culture and a decent CEO.

Cons

Horrific career progression. They hire you in as low as possible then cap you at a 10% increase for each promotion. Many people quit for two years, go to the competition for a promotion, then return for yet another promotion and sometimes DOUBLE the pay. Which is a total waste when this company could have just developed people and kept talent instead of pushing them away. If you want to get into Analytics they are the lowest paying company on the strip and have an insane turnover rate. They have all the data, but you have to us SQL to get anything which honestly is a little outdated with all the BI tools available.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the 10% rule. All your doing is forcing talent away.

    Pros

    Largest employer in Nevada.
Very interesting environments--get Bellagio if you can.

    Cons

Some of them are long days.
Some leaders are too egotistical; surprising for a hospitality company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue upgrading so leaders are less egotistically driven.

    Pros

Working at MGM resorts is a very fast paced and unique environment. The corporate environment is much different then normal corporate America. The positions have oversight of some of the worlds largest resorts in the world.

    Cons

One of the downsides that you have to get used to is that directions can change on a daily basis. It could make managing projects very challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let department management be more involved in hiring process for new positions. HR does not always understand the specific jobs or needs of departments and the hiring process can get bogged down because of this. A lot of unqualified applicants get through the filtering process because of this lack of knowledge.
