I have been working at MGM Resorts International full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

They own a lot of properties, so there is room for advancement.

Cons

Very poor supervision and management training and selection. New employees are all temporary workers with no benefits or chance or ever becoming full time workers. Employees are given floor positions when they have insufficient knowledge and experience to do the job correctly. Friends hire and promote friends over qualified employees.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop standards for skills, attitude, appearance and performance from your employees.Hands on supervision and enforcement of rules.Hire management people who have actually done the jobs and have some understanding of what the jobs really entail. Require excellence in all areas. Establish performance reviews and pay employees based on these reviews. Require managers to actually manage and not spend the shift playing computer games. Upper management might spend some time in the gaming areas to get a feel for what it actually going on, and on some shift other than day shift. Union employees should not be "untouchable" and be required to give friendly customer service.

I have been working at MGM Resorts International as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Really focus on where you will be most successful. They take the time to make sure you are happy with where you're at and how they can help you improve. The office I am in invests a lot of time and resources into it's staff to keep them current.

While there is a lot of governance over the different projects, I've only seen constructive feedback. Everyone is adults and treated as such. I have never worked in an office before where everyone worked together so well. Everyone is on there game all the time, and I have been blown away by the caliber of people they have in their office.

    Cons

Very complex systems and many different offices to manage them. MGM has there hands in so many different things that if your project crosses into multiple areas it can be very time consuming to get all of the resources and approvals you need from all of the many different departments. Can be very bureaucratic.
