Pros

Very relaxed environment where you are encouraged to communicate and develop with colleagues across the board. Executive board open and forthcoming.

Cons

Some restrictions on length of contract work due to a government agency. Recently moved site so may have since changed.

I worked at MHRA as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The organisation as a whole is full of a really diverse mix of people from all backgrounds, giving a really interesting working environment. The project I was working on had some really exciting and "bleeding edge" technology to work with which was great to be a part of.

    Cons

The biggest downside was the ridiculously negative view of contractors. Unfortunately this wasn't helped by the fact that our programme leadership team (who were also contractors) worked in an extremely unprofessional manner, behaving like bullies and creating a really negative vibe amongst the team. This appeared to stem from them being clearly out of their depth with the scale of work being delivered. A shame as the client gave really positive feedback on our outputs.

    Advice to Management

Integration of contract teams into the permanent staff teams is crucial to the success of collaborative working. I believe the situation of my project team was unique, but one to learn from given the high churn of resource!
