Pros

Good, competitive pay for co-op students and summer interns. There are ample opportunities to learn new things. Lots of other students.

Cons

The extra security can be obnoxious at times, but it is a necessity due to the nature of the work.

Advice to Management

The leadership is doing a very good job. I have no complaints. My experience at the lab was very pleasant.

    Pros

Working at a job that provides value to the public.

    Cons

The current structure offers few opportunities for administrative staff for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Increase collaboration between different engineering divisions, finance, and contracting so that the structure is more integrated than silo-ed.

    Pros

Very interesting projects to work on. The place has lots of PhDs floating around. Those guys think up the projects themselves but they also have to have an army of subcontractors to get the projects done. Contracts are (typically) measured in years, not months. I did 2 subcontract gigs there, both of which exceeded 2 years. I got some very valuable experience. I've also been told it a great place to retire from. Benefits, presumably because it's MIT, are about as liberal as it gets.

    Cons

Salary, both perm and subcontract, appear to be lower than comparable positions in the private sector.
