I have been working at MIT Lincoln Laboratory full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

There are many experts in their field who work here, so there are a lot of in-house resources to utilize. There is always something new to learn. Flexible working schedules are great. Good benefits.

Cons

Pay scale is seriously out of sync for a lot of jobs. Management is almost always promoted from the ranks within, so that tends to put people who are very intelligent in their field into a management position that many are not equipped for. Promotions are hard to come by, as well.

    Pros

The lab is a hub of brilliant minds with great benefits and work-life balance.

    Cons

There is a divide between technical and support staff. Support staff are often looked down upon or treated poorly....not to mention the noncompetitive salaries of hose support positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on office culture to improve the retention rate of Gen Y staff as well as recruiting more women for management roles, as is the lab is run by a lot of "old, out-of-touch, men".
