I worked at MIT Lincoln Laboratory full-time for more than a year

Pros

Interesting work, opportunity to work with and learn from very smart people. Work-life balance is very good and provides a lot of flexibility, especially if you are effective in your role/job.

Cons

The culture varies quite a bit from group to group, you experience will vary depending on which group you are working in. Getting access to necessary data from sponsors can be very frustrating and time-consuming.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some areas of traditional strength for Lincoln are decreasing in importance and relevance over time, make sure to adapt your workforce over time so you are competitive in emerging areas of R&D moving forward.

I worked at MIT Lincoln Laboratory full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

A comfortable, 9-5 job with excellent benefits. A bit of freedom to find solutions to problems using your expertise.

    Cons

Shallow management structure with little room to grow. You can put in a lot of extra effort with little compensation. There are interesting projects, but you need to find them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make starting compensation more competitive for software developers. Make it a meritocracy; more emphasis on expertise and less on education level.
