I have been working at MIT full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great colleagues that are always willing to help out and provide advice.
Freedom to pursue own research interests (if adviser lets you)
Lots of resources when needed, never felt constraint by lack of resources

Cons

Hours can be long and unpredictable.
Actual situation very dependent on research advisers.
Some infrastructure (office and lab-space out-dated).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in existing infrastructure, not just new buildings on campus.

I have been working at MIT full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Intellectually, the work at MIT and collaborative institutes such as the Broad or MGH are unparalleled. The science that occurs at MIT is sci-fi come to life and the professors have some of the most innovative, out-of-the-box approaches I've ever encountered.

    Cons

The culture of MIT is extremely high stress and work-a-holism. While the peer competitiveness is much lower than you would expect at an institution of this caliber, there is great potential to feel depressed and socially isolated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More respect could be given to research staff and mid-senior level researchers such as postdocs. While they are still in a training phase, they are extremely experienced and drive much of the research agenda at the institute, yet many benefits are lacking or inaccessible at this level (including some of the oddly-structured insurance benefits and professional/career development resources).
